Facebook is the number 2 most visited website in the world. This
produces massive opportunities for you to be able to reach potentially
millions of people. The Facebook ‘page’, if used correctly, can be an
invaluable tool to connect with current and potential customers. The
2012 State of Inbound Marketing report found that the number of
businesses that say Facebook is critical or important to their business
has increased by 75%. If you feel that you are not getting the most out
of your Facebook page, read on.
Be Informative and Helpful
Facebook is constantly flooded with updates, so it is important to
stand out from the crowd. You must try and be as informative and helpful
as you can and after a while people may start seeing you as a good
source of information which will increase your following. Your posts
should be relevant to your industry but not necessarily always about
selling your products.
Create Posts That Inspire People to Share
The more your followers are inspired to share your content, the more
people will see your content as it will appear on their friends’ news
feeds and thus the more likes you will get.
Variety is the Spice of Life
Post a range of content to your Facebook page. Text alone doesn’t
always grab attention so mix it with lots of photos and videos which are
far more likely to get ‘Likes’ and ‘Shares’.
Keep it Brief
Short, punchy text is more likely to be read. Take time to consider
not only what you want to say but also how you are going to say it. The
punchier your posts, the better chances of being read and thus shared
with your followers’ networks.
Just Ask!
Including a call to action in your post such as ‘Leave a comment’ or
‘Share this…’ can be surprisingly effective. Encouraging interactions in
this way can be a great way of exposing your page to a wider audience.
Competition Time
Competitions have been proven to be a huge tool for gaining more
followers. The most successful way is to post something like ‘Share this
link to be entered into our competition to win…’ When people see their
friends have entered your competition in this way, they are encouraged
to ‘like’ your page and share your content to be entered as well.
Remember that competitions like this will only work if the prize is
something worth winning. A fantastic prize that appeals to your target
market really can spread like wild fire on Facebook.
Frequency is Key
Post frequently but not so much that you appear to be spamming. I recommend posting at least once a day.
Use The Facebook Like Button Plugin
If you have a website or blog, this is the perfect way to get more followers. Simply go to the Facebook Developers website,
go through the steps and paste the code into your website or even your
blog posts. This is probably one of the best ways to get followers,
especially if people are viewing your website and finding it useful.
Interact with Other Company Pages
Facebook allows you to ‘like’ other pages as your own page. The way
to do this is to click on the little cog in the top right hand corner
and select ‘Use Facebook as [your page's name]‘. You can then search for
companies, ‘like’ them and interact with them much like you would from
your personal account. Commenting on another company’s status or
posting on their wall could bring attention to yourself and result in
gaining followers. This should not be used for spamming on other
company’s pages. Only post relevant feedback and comments.
Keep Your Page Up-To-Date
The most important thing you must do is ensure that you have a
profile picture. People will most likely not follow you if you do not
have one. Also make sure that all of your information is populated and
up-to-date, the more complete your ‘About Us’ section is, the more likely it is people are going to trust it and follow.
