Facebook Allows Password Recovery on “Trusted Contacts”

Users of social networks, who have forgotten their password, get another option for its restoration. You can select particular trusted Facebook friends and get help from them in case of problems in order to regain access to their account.

The early as 2011 as “Trusted Friends” tested function is now being implemented in an expanded form as “Trusted Contacts”. They should be gradually introduced worldwide and is apparently planned for All, as “Trusted contacts” already in the help section of Facebook are mentioned. The friends are therefore in the security settings section select “Trusted contacts”, and the list can be edited later.
Facebook recommends choosing good friends, which would also leave at any time to spare key to his apartment. They should also be possible not only accessible via the social network, but also phone or in person – to actually be able to help if the application should fail. In this case, the user must contact the friends who receive security codes and other instructions from Facebook.
The successful password recovery with this option, only possible when three friends of the selected security codes submit. As “Trusted contacts” three to five friends can be determined. “The more friends you choose, the more people can help you if it is necessary,” advises the social network.
“With Trusted contacts you need not worry about impressing the security question or fill in long web forms to prove who you are you,” it said. But Facebook is obviously clear that the new option could also prove to be a new vulnerability and facilitate attacks.
“Make sure that you call your friends or yourself personally meet with them,” the company warned. “We want to make sure that no one gets access to your Facebook account by pretending to be for you (for example by e-mail to your friends to ask for the security code).”
